SOTW: TONICA save us with some bright electro-pop

Today’s Single of the Week is Save Yourself by electro-pop duo TONICA.  With a sound that’ll appeal to fans of CHVRCHES, Purity Ring or New Zealand indie pop duo Broods,

Consisting of Amory (singer, songwriter) and Sam (songwriter, instrumentalist, producer), Save Yourself is a bright electro pop tune with vibrant synths and a warped vocals with lyrics that explore themes of addiction. Recorded at their TONICA’s home studio and mixed by Lewis Gardiner who has worked with thee Glaswegian electropop oufit Prides who are no stranger to creating great big anthemic pop songs mastered at the legendary Sterling Sound, NYC by Chris Gehringer (Drake, The 1975).

Their visual presentation is as vivid and rich as their music, having been designed by the super talented João Olivierathey’ve spoken in length about their fascination with neo noir: “The mood and aesthetic of 80s/modern neon-noir cinema has definitely inspired what we do. Films like Blade Runner & Drive have this shadowy, mysterious, sinister feeling to them – we feel like our music captures that sense of drama & suspense too. We love the use of neon glamour & rich colours mixed with industrial gloom within NN cinema, especially in film posters.’

Having already played at Club NME at KOKO and supported The Kooks on tour in the past, TONICA’s future live shows are set to be as dynamic and energetic as their music consisting of several light panels and strobe lights that are triggered by the beat of the music. They’ve got a neon-bright career of them if this single is any indication, we can’t wait to hear more.
