Introducing Jay Thackery’s ‘Rehab Diaries’

Musicians are often known for their honesty – but Jay Thackery’s debut release, Rehab Diaries, takes this a step further than most. It was written and recorded during his last period in rehab and there is a vulnerability and openness to the tracks that seem to reflect this situation. Jay has suffered with various mental health and substance abuse issues over the years, even attempting suicide, forcing him to take a hiatus from music for a period. The release of this latest album, however, hopefully signals a turn for the better…

Several of the tracks on the EP are dedicated to those he lost to suicide and accidental overdose during his darker times, including ‘Don’t Cry’, the lyrics of which were inspired by the suicide note left behind by a close friend. The influence of Frank Turner on Jay Thackery is clear – the tattoos, the singer-songwriter with an edge vibe, and, mostly strikingly, his artwork – the cross symbol clearly referencing that of Turner’s logo.
